Bulgaria Property - IRA Members Buy Real Property for 1 M Euro in Bulgaria - imoti.net

The nephews of IRA leader Thomas "Slab" Murphy buy land near a golf course in Bulgaria

The nephews of IRA leader Thomas "Slab" Murphy have bought real property for at least a million euros in Bulgaria, The Standart was informed. The four Irishman invested Murphy's money in plots of land near the village of Rudnik, in the region of the coastal city of Burgas, and nearby a big golf course between the towns of Razlog and Bansko, sources from the Bulgarian Financial Intelligence Agency told The Standart.
Fifty-eight-year-old Murphy aka The Slab was arrested on November 8 as he was coming out of the stadium after a football match. He was charged with tax evasion.
"We'd been investigating the origin of the Irishmen's money invested in Bulgaria for quite long before Murphy's detention in Ireland. We were approached by a financial institution and we launched an investigation for money laundering," said Vassil Kirov, Director of the Financial Intelligence Agency.
"In fact, we were the first to inform the Irish authorities about these dubious investments in Bulgaria. We have good grounds to suspect that the money of his nephews comes from Thomas Murphy himself," he added.
